Chronic Student Absences:
It goes without saying that the number of students absent either due to quarantine or testing positive was no surprise. Again, we thank everyone for doing their best to help keep all of our students and staff healthy by keeping your child home if they are showing symptoms. At the same time, we want to reduce chronic absenteeism by requesting all students attend school unless they are sick or quarantining. Extended time off for vacations or trips to another country are not excused absences and can disrupt the progress your child is making in school.
Social Emotional Learning!
Your children will be participating in weekly Mindfulness lessons in their classrooms. These lessons are being delivered by professional presenters from the Pratyush Sinha Foundation and paid for using the American Rescue Act funding for supporting student social-emotional health and wellbeing. In addition, the school counselors are delivering weekly lessons to students in their classrooms. Please take a moment and ask your child about Mindfulness lessons in class.
School Security Drills:
We received new guidance from the NJDOE Security and Preparedness Division regarding the process for conducting security drills and parent communication. During the month of December all schools received new technology and training on the Eastern Datacomm notification system. The new system has an automated voice that will announce the drill and procedures over the PA system. This is new and sounds very different from the announcement that normally comes from Mr. Masessa of Sra. Peake. When we conduct our security drills, you will be notified via email through School Messenger. If you have any questions or concern, please do not hesitate to contact us!
